Review of Haywire (2011) by John M — 08 Feb 2013
Obviously director Steven Soderbergh wants us to meet Gina Carano, the mixed-martial arts star making her screen debut as a burned spy who knows how to put the hurt on anybody. After seeing her fight in a match he fashioned a whole movie around her that is Jason Bourne meets Pam Grier and Alfred Hitchcock.
Her acting chops are rusty, speaking in a "I'm serious" tone throughout, but her fight scenes are dazzling, especially her hotel brawl with Michael Fassbender. Unfortunately my interest dropped half way through and my understanding about the plot got murkier, even at the very end where characters tell you why this is happening.
