Review of Haywire (2011) by Adam S — 17 Apr 2014
I must admit to have been disappointed with "Haywire", with the film not meeting the expectations that the director and cast placed on it.
The film stars MMA star Gina Carano in the lead role, and the supporting cast includes Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, and some massive (and criminally underused) names like Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton and Antonio Banderas. With all these ingredients under the watchful eye of Steven Soderbergh, who had succeeded with a large ensemble like this with "Traffic", it should have been a more engaging film that it was.
Instead, this film - about a private agent betrayed by her colleagues and fighting to reveal the truth - is not much more than an average action thriller, with very little to distinguish itself. Some parts were great, but overall, this film fits the definition of "meh".
