Review of Häxan (1922) by Todd S — 09 Mar 2006
This is an interesting silent film. Although it has some supernatural horror elements to it, it was presented almost as if it were a documentary. Most of its portrayal of how witches acted and operated seems to have come from the medieval witch hunting tome The Hammer of the Witches (rough translation of the Latin title).
The make-up special effects pretty good for the 1920s and the actors are average and well rooted in the style of acting of the era. It?s an interesting viewing, but probably only for the really dedicated fans of the genre.
