Review of Häxan (1922) by Ian R — 03 Jun 2013
A great film that explores the fear of devilry and witchcraft in the middle ages and the lengths people would go to in order to find and persecute witches. The film then at the end shows the witch hysteria as nothing more than superstitions against people with mental or physical disorders.
The has incredible special effects for the silent film era and the unusual lighting adds a certain surreality to the film. The one thing that I think could really have improved the film was to show other instances of witch hysteria beyond the middle ages such as the infamous Salem Witch Trials.
