Review of Häxan (1922) by J. Scott F — 01 Jan 2014
This odd little film is part documentary, part history, part sociological lecture, and part horror. Several stories are embedded to make a point, but overall it plays like a macabre educational film strip.
I had actually tried to watch it several times over the years, and always got bored or wondered what the point was - but I finally stuck with it to the end to see what the filmmaker was trying to do. Overall the film mocks its subject matter and debunk centuries of superstition while making valid modern points and parallels about the oppression of women throughout the ages.
