Review of Havoc (2005) by Michael T — 03 Mar 2008
The need for indenty piece that spins the "Thirteen" genre a little differently. Instead of broken homes, we have beverly hills. Anne Hathaway really did give a good performance, plus she's amazingly beautiful, so sequences of her nudity are nice to behold.
I guess thats the nicest way to put it. Though in cinema look and feel, it seemed a little gratuitous and just an excuse to show her stuff off, I think she could have very well been shot in more flattering manners.
The only difference is that the director is female, so instantly it becomes okay to be topless...whatever. I was a little indignant of the fact that reality seemed to take a back seat when in certain circumstances involving the Mexican gang members.
..but thats just a minor detail I could let slide. The bonus of this film is that it exposes the flaccid skin deep shallow facade that everyone seems to have in Southern CA. Quite a juxtaposition really, that causes an interesting quandary about the society of that region.
My final take is that this picture gets an A for effort.
