Review of Haunter (2013) by Sarfaraz A — 19 Dec 2013
Haunter directed by Vincenzo Natali (Splice) - script by Brian King. Starring Abigail Breslin, and Stephen McHattie.
Lisa (Abigail Breslin) lives with her mother, father and little brother. She wakes up each morning to yet another day from previous day (before her 16th birthday - sounds Groundhog Day). She is quite a rebellious teen - has to eat, same meatloaf, do the laundry, and has to watch same episode of 'Murder, She Wrote'. Lisa has been living this life for the past 30 years and only recently woke up to realize that all this awhile she's been a ghost, living in other's house, about to suffer similar fate.
Film can be called genius when touched by the photography work: purgatorial light, doorways lights, mirrors to frame supernatural lighting. Certainly there are shocking frames in it. Good performance from two lead characters. But, then again, this movie runs at slow pace - it might freak you out, too reluctant in dealing with plot; however, if you have lived enjoyed fantasy-drama 'Groundhog Day (Bill Murray)', and science-fiction 'Source Code (Jake Gyllenhaal)', then here is an attempt on supernatural-horror genre.
