I get the dark humor, and the conspiracy on the acting, but hell if they'd just made the antagonist a little more sensical then they might have been on the right track. Victor Crowley is all too powerful and inescapable without the rationalization how he does those things which made me think that Hatchet also has to be in the genre of fantasy.
