Were it not about eternally-elitist Haaaahvaaad, where the film's fairly-unproductive producer/director once studied, this film would never have been made.

It pretends this game legendary, even though just one week prior, the REST of America lamented the final 65 seconds of a TRULY legendary upset, The Heidi Bowl, went unbroadcast by NBC. That coincidence/parallel goes entirely unmentioned here because, well, the rest of America has nothing to do with Haaaahvaaad.

The only entertainment value here is Haaaahvaaad graduates openly exhibiting their exaggerated sense of self-importance and superiority. Even the film's oh-so-clever title (taken from the school newspaper's headline) says as much, since a tie is not a victory - unless tied by Haaaahvaaad.

So-and-so dated Meryl Streep. So-and-so roomed with George Bush. Doonesbury comics were born of Haaaahvaaad. Tommy Lee Jones drones on about roommate Al Gore's sense of humor; Gore played "Dixie" on touch-tone phones - what a hoot!

It's all just nauseatingly self-indulgent - and insulting to all us little-brained proletariats.

CAUTION: Further spoiling ahead that could well save you 100 minutes of your life.

The film format is to alternate between play footage and player interviews. Often the interviewees are off-point, not only as stated above, but also when discussing their excitement regarding the introduction of birth control pills - or that historic moment when Boston Police dared to arrest protesters - on Haaaahvaaad Yaaad!

The film's first sixty minutes plods through entirely irrelevant early game play until, with 1:13 left, it's Yale, 29-13. The viewer then spends forty minutes of film time examining and reexamining those 73 seconds of game time.

Bottom line? Yale's sloppy, over-confident play plus yardage gained from several quite-suspicious penalties - not any gridiron prowess by Haaaahvaaad - leads to a tie, just as the clock runs out. But Haaaahvaaad wins the game. Of course.

RECOMMENDATION: Since this film is about Haaaahvaaad, it's perfect.
