Review of Harsh Times (2005) by Paul N — 17 Jun 2008
Another film seemingly built around a barn-storming Christian Bale performance. Upon closer examination, though, there is much to admire here. Freddy Rodriguez more than holds his own as the heart of the movie - sharing a believable chemistry with Bale - and Ayer deftly handles the contrasting aspects of each character and situation, but a slightly episodic and predictable narrative denies the film true greatness.
