Review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) by Dr. F P — 17 Mar 2013

Favorite book, favorite movie. Azkaban is a great addition to the Harry Potter franchise, what makes these movies for me is the supporting cast. Daniel Radcliffe is OK but without the likes of Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman, David Thewlis & co these adaptations could have been just plain BAD.

Some things I enjoyed here were Remus Lupin, when Hagrid stood up and smacked into the table and the shot where the dementor shriveled up that flower, THAT was beautifully creepy! I finally started to like Hermione and Draco Malfoy here too.

As ever all of the SFX are good and even though this is nearly 10 years old it doesn't look very dated. I also prefer the camera work here and direction than the previous two by Chris Columbus, who seemed to have a quite average, boring way of telling the stories through the lens.
