Review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) by Jonas K — 19 Aug 2013
This is arguably the best movie in the franchise, though I would not exactly say it`s my favourite, it`s without a doubt in my top 3 of the franchise and one of my favourite movies of all time. Everything in this movie just pops, I love the style and atmosphere Alfonso Cuaron brought to this entry.
It`s dark, gothic, stylish and brilliant. First off I have to say this is the point when Emma, Daniel and Rubert felt convincing and genuine as the three main characters. They are maturing and so is the franchise.
Their performances were excellent and you will keep on seeing them improve through out, but this was the turning point when they hit the nail on it`s head. The Prisoner of Azkaban`s plot involves heavier and deeper themes, the imagery has this gothic feel to it, and the dialouge has improved tremendously.
It just feels solid in every way. Alfonso is the greatest director this franchise has seen due to the fantastic ability he has to make every camera shot so beautiful and meaningful, this is especially prominant in the end sequence were everything falls in place.
There weren`t any plotholes that I could find which can easily be made with time travel. The ending/ entire film was expertly put together with every single detail in mind. The effects are stunning. The characters are great and well developed.
The script is a masterpiece, just simply put a masterpiece. Everything comes together in a great way, the pacing , the conflicts, the drama, it`s all perfect. I might sound like a fanboy now but I just don`t see any flaws here.
I`m not the over analyzing type because I feel that it can ultimately ruin every movie but from the way I watch movies this had absolutely no flaws and provides complex storytelling full packed with wonderful effects and spectacular cinematography.
