Review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) by Renzo V — 29 Sep 2014
"THE WIZARD AND THE PRISONER".
- 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' is a 2004 fantasy film directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Gravity). It's the third installment of the 'Harry Potter 'saga based upon the popular novels of J. K. Rowling. In this film Harry attends his third year at Hogwarts, where he is informed that a dangerous man escaped the Azkaban Prison in order to kill him. A brilliant storyline full of wonderful characters, amazing effects and moments of suspense. I'm a big fan. Reprising their roles are Daniel Radcliffe (the Woman in Black), Emma Watson (Noah), Rupert Grint, Tom Felton (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Robbie Coltrane (From Hell), Alan Rickman (Die Hard), Maggie Smith (Hook) and Julie Walters (Billy Eliot), and added to the cast are Gary Oldman (the Dark Knight), David Thewlis (the Island of Dr Moreau), Timothy Spall (Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street) and Emma Thompson (Nanny McPhoe).
It's almost Harry Potters (Radcliffe) third year at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After running away from his uncles house, he goes to London where he spends the rest of the vacation at the Leaky Cauldron. There he meets his best friends Ron Weasley (Grint) and Hermione Granger (Watson). Together they get on the Hogwarts Express, where they share a compartment with a sleeping professor. On the way, the train stops abruptly and a dark cloaked figure climbs on board. It's a Dementor, a guard from the Wizard Prison Azkaban. As the creature comes toward Harry, the new Defense against the Black Arts teacher Remus Lupin (Thewlis) wakes up and saves the day.
At Hogwarts, Harry and his friends learn that Dementors will be guarding the School because a dangerous man, called Sirius Black (Oldman), has escaped from Azkaban. As the year progresses and the students attend new classes such as Care of Magical Creatures given by Rubeus Hagrid (Coltrane) and Divination given by the crazy Sybill Trelawney (Thompson), the trio unravels that there is a connection between Sirius Black and Harry...
