Review of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) by Conrad S — 25 Jul 2016
As a film, this is damn near perfect, The actors have finally all achieved a level of believability. Alfonzo does a much better job of pacing, and all around directing the story than columbus ever could.
The adult actors are still improving, and the new Dumbledore does a much better job of acting as that character than the last. The cinematography is great. The scene in the shrieking shack is a perfect example of intense action on a small scale.
Yet, the continuity slips up incredibly. While I much prefer Alfonzo directing, he clearly ignored a lot of the things that had already been set up by Columbus, even if he didn't have to. Changing Dumbledore needed to be done; Flitwicks makeover, the redesign of the castle and the sudden new school rules on wardrobe did not.
Add to that this was a terrible adaptation, which left me screaming at the scream on my first sitting, you can understand why I don't think it's perfect. Still a great film, but there were definitely some things to be tweaked.
