I really feel as if the movies started out weak but entertaining nonetheless. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is not the weakest film in the franchise but it is certainly not the strongest. In fairness to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, these were their first major acting roles.
Obviously, in later films they improved but in this the acting was poor.
