Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Jayakrishnan R — 22 Feb 2013
The Sorcerer's stone is my favourite film in the series, mainly due to the sheer innocence in this film. One more important thing I felt about this film is that it was the only film in the series that was actually able to surpass the majestic heights of the book.
The special effects still look good. This is the only film in the series that can be viewed and understood by anyone, even those who haven't read the book yet. I understood the story well on my first watch 12 years ago without reading the book.
I wasn't able to do the same with the rest of the films as I had to read the books to understand the plot of these films. Those films that I felt most discomforted are The Prisoner of Askaban and The Half Blood Prince, where the former is now my favourite book and the latter being the next in succession to it.
