Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Markus M — 29 Aug 2014
8/10.
This solid first entry to the Warner Bros. cash cow brings to life the first book in J.K. Rowling's uber-popular series. Sure, there are some shaky moments with the acting of the three leads, but they're kids so that's to be expected. Thankfully they are bolstered by a very strong supporting cast, which includes the likes of Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, John Hurt, and the late Richard Harris. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone definitely has some poorly-aged special effects, especially when compared to the later entries in the series, but it is still a fine introduction to the wizarding world of the titular character.
