Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Luke M — 27 Apr 2015
With arguably the best source material available to it, the first Harry Potter has been set up to win, and is a pitch-perfect adaptation of the beloved story, from hair and makeup to casting choices. The instalment invests wisely in its young actors, who bring their best to the film (even if that best isn't the best).
The best asset of the film, however, is John Williams' beautiful score, which feels as if it could have been lifted from the mind of Rowling herself.
