Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Sam D — 30 Jun 2015
Where do you start with a film like this? Its Harry Potter!
The performances are astounding, especially from the three mains who have perfect chemistry together and standing alone, none of them are weak. NO ONE IN THIS FILM IS WEAK. Not a single character felt unneeded, and all the performances are perfect.
The storyline is one of the best ever made, plain and simple. The world that was made by J.K. Rowling is a very strong and inviting world, even with some of the darker and scarier moments. As a child I wanted to be a part of this world, and honestly I still do. This world is so fun, so interesting and so lovely that I couldn't possibly help but wish for that.
The direction is great, Chris Columbus knows how to direct a kid friendly, entertaining movie. He is blessed with a great ability to work with actors, especially child actors because he coaxed phenomenal performances out of them.
The special effects are great, and were revolutionary for their time with great practical effects as well as groundbreaking creature designs for the creatures featured in the film.
If you haven't seen this movie yet, I implore you to watch it.
