Review of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) by Hanneguacamole — 22 Jan 2016
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone had high expectations from the beginning – expectations from viewers who already loved the books and its intricate details. Such a viewer would be bound to notice the discrepancies and shortcomings which may affect overall enjoyment. But for a viewer simply watching The Sorcerer's Stone for the story and the entertainment may be in for a real treat.
The movie's strength is truly the story. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are a lovable trio that carries this enchanted world of wizardry to us Muggles in a way that we can only dream of being there. Hogwarts' enchantment is so spectacular that one may even forgive the movie for its, at times, incoherent and overly emotional plot. I will always love Harry Potter, but its best form is with every small detail showing through.
The soundtrack of this movie, however, was rather spectacular. Paired with graphics and scenery that shows wonders beyond our wildest dreams, this is where The Sorcerer's Stone wins. Marvelous details.
