Review of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) by Eric M — 01 Feb 2015
Feeling at times eerily similar to "The Empire Strikes Back" in terms of its plot construction, tone and final showdowns, "The Order of the Phoenix" sometimes feels a bit scatter brained, but it still continues the darker path forged in "Goblet of Fire".
Armed with excellent acting, thanks to excellent foundational storytelling, we still are strongly invested in the fate of the characters even when the film stumbles. Ralph Fiennes develops his Voldemort character further with his chilling turn, and the film is wise to develop truly menacing villains.
A solid entry into the Potter franchise, even if it falls short of the heights of "Goblet".
