Review of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) by Jean-Philippe G — 19 Jan 2016
This is probably the best of the bunch so far. I was engaged from start to finish, and appreciated that the rivalry between Harry and Draco finally got to its climax. I was beginning to fear that there would be no real meaning behind young Malfoy's character, but that was addressed in this movie.
Further, the implementation of Liquid Luck offered the most humorous scene in any of the movies, which was a treat.
There was slight disappointment in the premise of Professor Slughorn's character - the idea that Horace's distant memory was the only way Dumbledore could have learned about the Horcruxes seemed so far-fetched that I have to consider it a plothole.
That being said, the twists and turns in this one did a great service to the series as a whole, and the artistic direction - particularly the cinematography - was on point, something that Order of the Phoenix lacked. I'm excited to see how the series comes to a halt over the final two films.
