Review of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) by Amanda W — 25 Mar 2015
My first impression on Half Blood Prince is, it is absolutely beautiful. Beautifully filmed movie with visually stunning shots. The film grains on this one is one of the best I've seen. If you happen to have a bluray version of it, just check out it's picture quality.
In the midst of the conclusion from its predecessor. Gryffindor is back to its normal state and it seems that, they have a lot of investigations to do. It also introduces the character of Prof. Horace Slughorn.
Whom may a good old companion of Dumbledor and was hired again to be the potion master of the school. Yet, Dumbledor together with Potter, has several plans in order to get Slughorn's memory that leads to an investigation on Tom Riddle's past.
As we all know, these Harry Potter films are more of a dark fantasy in general. However I noticed, there's a lot of mystery aspects into it. As much as investigation goes, they found out that Draco Malfoy has some kind of hidden agenda that leads to Valdemort and the 12 Death Eaters.
They also discovered that, in order to defeat Valdemort, they need to destroy all 5 Horcuxes. I was really into the story, yet I've seen some minor plot holes which obviously it was all in the text.
I find it un-engaging in terms of story telling development. For instances, the part were Ron Weasley and Hermoine has this love triangle scene that involves ms. Lavender Brown (who has a huge love interest on Ron).
It's not that, I'm not fund of any teenager romances. Though I think it's not necessarily important to include that into the story. And I don't blame the movie itself, cause it should happened just to avoid crushing fandom disappointments.
But without a doubt, it has all the good aspects of a Harry Potter film as always. Quality wise, it was fantastic. Visually impressive, superb pacing with great cinematography and production design. Which leads into another interesting sequel.
4/5.
