Review of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) by Katie B — 24 May 2014
Goblet of Fire may have the most plot holes in the series, but it's easily one of the most entertaining Potter films. Right from the opening scene we can tell Harry Potter is taking a darker and more mature turn.
Harry has to compete in the Triwizard Tournament, a completely dangerous event in which kids risk their lives for a trophy. If you don't analyze the story too much, it's a great ride. Once again the acting is top notch and the score is epic.
There are dark forces at work and the sub plots are tied into the main storyline so well, never becoming too convoluted. The kids are getting older, and the film perfectly showcases the more mature side of this awesome fantasy series.
The action is exciting and well shot, the dialogue is occasionally quite funny, and best of all, the plot twists are not predictable. The movie does a great job of taking the massive book's most interesting material out and cutting it down.
Maybe it's still a bit long but this is a great movie. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire gets 4/5 stars (A-).
