Review of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005) by Ryan H — 06 Jul 2014
The only film in the series to be directed by Mike Newell is an unfortunate step backwards. Cuaron's Prisoner of Azkaban set the stage for a darker Harry Potter, only for this film to be like an extended Dr. Who episode, rife with Dutch angles and a hurried plot.
The redeeming quality of this film are the ever-so-slightly improved creature effects (particularly the dragons.) For being such an excellent book in the series, it's regrettable that Alfonso Cuaron did not choose to stick around.
Also... Voldemort's back?! WHAT? That's something! Well, have a good summer! (WHAT KIND OF ENDING IS THAT?).
It's better than Chamber of Secrets... so that's something.
