Review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) by Dr. F P — 31 Aug 2013
All the Potter movies directed by David Yates are just visually beautiful. I can't help but soak in the great dynamics on screen. Unfortunately I didn't find Deathly Hallows Part 1 very gripping at all and it seems Hermione is the only one keeping things from falling apart - that may be the point, though.
Everything feels very disjointed, what with the constant hopping from one field to another, from one forest to another and so on whilst bearing hardly anything fruitful in regards to defeating Voldemort.
Admittedly I didn't read the book, I gave up after not being particularly engrossed, so the movie may just be a brilliant portrayal of it, but as somewhat more casual a viewer the events on screen really don't do anything for me.
The trio become worryingly dull and it's really only Emma Watson that has come into her own. The lack of the majority of the supporting cast who we see at the beginning also dulls the energy of everything too.
I suppose it just doesn't feel as magical but of course if the book goes in this direction then who can blame the movie? Well, it has to end somewhere but I recall enjoying part 2 a lot more.
