Review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) by Jason 123 D — 27 Sep 2012
I think the biggest issue with this film is that the climax is at the very beginning. The opening scene, where Harry and Hermione are leaving the homes they've lived in presumably for either a long time or their entire lives, and certainly the family they've lived with their entire lives, we see Hermione obliviate her parents and Harry leaving the magical protection of the Dursley home.
At this point in the film, I forgot I was watching Harry Potter because of the way it was shot, the tone, the pacing, and the emotional aspect to the scene so vacant in every other film. Then we go back to the same old boring Harry Potter universe where nothing is original, everything is shot at a flat angle, and David Yates thinks he's shooting a Telenovela.
Having the Climax at the very beginning of the film makes the rest of the film horrendously slow to watch; it throws the pacing off and everything feels insignificant comparitively. This is the same issue the Sorcerer's Stone suffers, except we can stomach the Sorcerer's Stone.
