It feels like what it is, a time waster until the suitably epic finale, like the slow build to something good, only missing the good part. There are some arresting moments go gothicism and a few emotive highlights but overall this is just about as downbeat as any entry in the franchise and with no purpose behind it other than treading water until part 2.
