The tone in the Hallows part one is certainly darker that's for sure. There's also very little joy for Potter and co as they hit the road in search of the remaining Horcuxes; and a means with which to destroy them. What's a Horcrux you say? Well, a Horcrux is an item that Voldemort has used to store away a piece of his soul. By doing so, he makes himself almost unbeatable because to kill him completely, you also need to find all the Horcruxes and destroy them too. Sneaky bloke is old Voldemort. The nearest muggle (us normal humans) comparison would be losing your wallet, car keys and cell phone - really - could you survive without them?

Hallow's part one is beautifully made, and visually stunning. It's also the most mature Potter film to date, and the stakes in the story have never been deadlier.

Being that this last book has been split into two films, it's not surprising that plot wise, Hallows part one doesn't have a lot to say. While the time spent with Hermione, Ron and Potter does give our three young stars time to shine as actors. The film never fully justifies its existence in the first place. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid film. But it mainly exists to stretch out the series for a long as possible to rake in more box office treasure.

Movie Prep:

This is arguably the best looking Potter film to date, but it runs at a slow pace. You absolutely have to watch or read all the preceding movies/books before taking this on - it will not make sense otherwise. If you've enjoyed the other films in the series you'll likely enjoy this too.

Best Format:

If this film ever got shown again at a theater near you, certainly try to catch that show. It's a great looking film. At home a HD showing is a must.

Best moment for me:

I loved the animated back story that explains what the Deathly Hallows is. It's slickly put together, and blends in perfectly with the rest of the film.
