Review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) by Magnus G — 21 Sep 2014
Splitting Deathly Hallows into two films is a good idea considering how it's the most story heavy of the seven Harry Potter books yet Part 1 still comes across as an unfinished mess even when taking that into account.
All the previous Harry Potter films felt at least a little self-contained as films by themselves with this having the burden of being the first part to one story. The film rarely lets up though and keeps the action focused and thrilling and a lot of thought was put in the characters and their relationships.
The action being shifted from outside Hogwarts also makes this film feel fresher than before. It's a bit of a disappointment as a film by itself and feels very unfinished but when viewed alongside its companion film, it's more compelling.
