Review of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) by Jackson W — 03 Oct 2013

Definitely a much better movie than the first one. When I saw the first one, this is what I thought I was going to get. The acting was much more mature, the visuals way more spectacular, the characters more engaged and interesting, and the best part: The adventures were longer.

Every scene with the flying car just took me by surprise, it's such a beat up old junker yet it can drive on autopilot with a "fly switch". By all appearances, Chamber of Secrets sounds like a perfect movie.

Well, not exactly. I have a couple of issues with it, but none too major. I thought the discovery of the Chamber had too many details. We have Harry being thought of as the heir of Slytherin which I thought was awesome.

Harry Potter could be now an anti-hero and then I could see why people like him so much. But then you have Tom Riddle, a ghost living in a diary, a monster back story with Hagrid and the giant spider, and out of nowhere Ron's sister being captured.

Honestly, I would have loved to see more insight into Harry's story. Also, I didn't like Dobby at all (except for one part, he was annoying), and I also didn't much like Lockhart. But fans of Harry Potter can forgive me.

While I don't think Sorceror's Stone was in any means an entertaining movie, I definitely think Chamber of Secrets is. It had a lot going for it and it did capitalize in a lot of surprising and intimidating ways.
