As the series begins to progress into the second book, Harry becomes more expressive to the things around him, though it still sometimes feels like he's a pinball being flung around in the machine.
Now that there's a more mystery driven plot and improved effects, The chamber of secrets starts the progressing darkness that would grow throughout the series and more maturity as our characters age.
