Review of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) by Andy B — 15 Jan 2013
Well, this way too long film only took 1:30 to get to the plot, and the production value was higher than the first though the green screen stuff is still of the quality of a movie of the 80s. One can only hope the book offers so much more because this movie was basically a mish mash of visual gags with a poorly explained plotline.
The plot (all 40 minutes of it) was so full of holes that it left me clueless as to what was going on. Its one thing to make a movie for the fans but its another to make a movie ONLY for the fans. An outsider like me can't just fill in the holes from nothing (like any details whatsover of the main bad guy).
And what of all the random occurances like why does a car show up in the woods or why does a sword appear in a hat and how does harry know how to use a sword? Why does everyone in charge seem to think the school is surely doomed despite being around for a thousand years? Why do we need these pointless broom and ball matches? I'm sure this movie is appealing to fans but to everyone else like me it's just a waste of time.
