Review of Harry Brown (2009) by Luke R — 10 Nov 2010
This is a cathartic movie but certainly not a feel-good. Michael Caine lifted a rather lifeless script and together with Emily Mortimer turned what could have been a mindless vigilante flick into something more.
It is a violent movie, especially in terms of heartless, thoughtless violence on the part of the bad guys. Even though the hero comes through it leaves you with a bad taste at the end. I would have liked to have seen more made of Harry's relationship with his wife and his best friend so as to give sense to the violence that results after they both die.
Caine does his best in this regard but the script left him little to work with.
