Review of Harry Brown (2009) by Sam G — 27 Jun 2011
Great revenge flick with a fantastic performance by Caine. It has a pretty simple storyline but carries a lot of emotional impact. Surprisingly violent and disturbing at points, but it makes the revenge aspect much more satisfying throughout.
Koreans may have the revenge-drama genre on lock but the Brits are coming in a close second with films like this and Paddy Considine and Shane Meadow's "Dead Man's Shoes". The only detractors were that the unpleasantness seemed almost comical at times.
I know that the bad guys are supposed to be reprehensible, but it seemed a bit much to include a shirtless drug dealer with scars and tattoos covering his body who shoots heroin, snorts coke and smokes pot out of a luger pistol before selling guns to Caine, all in one sitting.
