Review of Harry Brown (2009) by David T — 31 Jan 2013

Not bad at all - Of course we've all seen movies of this ilk in the past but Harry Brown is still a very enjoyable foray into the world of the Vigilante. The plot I suppose is sort of plausible to a degree and looks into the more darker, more sinister side of social ladder within a council estate, a look into the crime, drugs and thugs that are the plight of most cities the world over.

I enjoy Caine's work both past and present and I don't have any real gripes or issues with his acting here (Unlike Weatherman) but I think he's too nicey nice for this role, his character has clearly got some demons from his experiences in the British Armed Forces but I don't think Caine wears them scars on screen.

Maybe (And a slight change in plot due to the age difference) a Ray Winston type of actor would have been more suitable for such a role. You could imagine Ray going on the war path in a block of flats but Caine doesn't look he's ever seen the inside of a flat let alone someone who would perform such heroics.

It's not really a criticism just a thought of the how the movie could be slightly more believable. Anyway, let's not detract from what is a very solid thriller. I don't see myself having a urge to continually come back to this but I would recommend it.

You sort of know what your going to get before you've even put the disc in the tray and that's fine because it does the things you want a movie of this type too do.
