Review of Harry Brown (2009) by Andrew M — 04 Aug 2013
Michael Caine puts in a strong performance as an ageing vigilante in a film which is both very violent and gritty. The whole experience is uncomfortable to watch, the kids on the estate are possibly some of the worst people in existence so you never feel any sympathy for them.
But the whole experience feels hollow and you can't help but compare it to Clint Eastwood's similar film Gran Torino, which is far superior to this. In the end this film gets by on Michael Caine's performance but is not as good as it could have been, maybe with a better script and a more experienced director this could have been something more.
