Review of Harry and Tonto (1974) by Nate E — 17 Jul 2008
A lost gem of the 70s. Quietly entertaining with a good performance by Art Carney. However, good enough to beat Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman and Albert Finney to the best actor oscar of 1974? Give me a break! 1974 was an exceptionally strong acting year and it's clear that Carney's win was motivated by sentimentality.
Still, this film is still worth watching and doesn't deserve to languish in obscurity.
