Review of Harry and the Hendersons (1987) by Joel H — 23 Sep 2017
I remember watching this film at the time of its UK video release and thinking that the rather lukewarm reception it received was unwarranted. I recently had the chance to sit down and watch it again, and I have to say that, even viewing it through adult eyes this time around, I still can't see the reason for the lacklustre response.
As far as I'm concerned, this film is a rather lovely piece of silliness, about which, there is very little to dislike. I'd even go so far as to say that the fact that a person has decided that they don't like it is indicative of the fact that they need a sense of humour.
OK, there's no genre-busting going on, and maybe, just maybe, it gets a bit preachy about meat-eaters, but I really don't care. I think, if you want a fun family film, you could do a lot worse than this.
