Review of Harriet the Spy (1996) by Pei-Jeane C — 25 Oct 2007
I love the nostalgic atmosphere. I wish I could live during that time. it had a very 90's feel (mostly from the opening credits as well as the costume design), yet paid homage to the 70's, which made sense because the book was written in the 70s and the movie was made in '96. I thought michelle trachtenberg did a fabulous job here. so did the other kids. i'm amazed that they didn't further their careers as actors... and michelle got those really lame movies as she got older. so sad.
Also, this movie was pretty intense for a kids' movie. movies for kids nowadays are way too sugarcoated and glamorize the "sweet life." this makes me miss the 90's and nickelodeon back when it was quirky and weird.
