Review of Harriet the Spy (1996) by Joel S — 01 Feb 2011
An overrated children's classic - which belittles the young reader - gets the cheesy, and generic studio treatment. In no ways do the film or the book represent or relate to the children reading them, they both simply make the mistake of thinking Harriet's point of view is more interesting than their own.
I imagine that the only time this movie gets shown anymore is when grade schoolers, who have just finished reading the book, are forced to watch it in class while the teacher gets a day off. This film sucks.
