Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Mykee M — 30 Nov 2008
Harold, a proto-proto emo/goth kid is a character often overlooked by the media. Why this film isn't more renowned is a mystery to me. It plays and delivers like an Oscar-winner, and if made today would certainly be up-to-par with critics as JUNO.
The humor isn't overwhelming, but it certainly is here in high doses. Harold's attempts at suicide are both physically impossible and improbable as they are hilarious.
I could see this being made today. They'd need to use the Cat Stevens music however, as it is a big part of what makes this film so great.
