Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Nate W — 11 Jan 2009
The premise of a young man obsessed with death and an old woman obsessed with life falling in love is certainly absurd, but "Harold and Maude" is also darkly funny and, at times, even profound.
Ruth Gordon is delightful as the vivacious octogenarian Maude, whose philosophies on life and death are whimsical yet wise. Cat Stevens' songs add a folksy flavour to the film to counter its hilarious morbidities.
