Ah geez, give me any one of those few, way-out-in-left-field sort of unconventional romance movies such as this one and you'll probably have me hook, line and sinker. I really loved this movie. I think perhaps the main reason I loved this film so much is because I can really identify with both Harold and Maude, which are both brilliantly acted by Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort, might I add.

Hal Ashby does a fantastic job of directing this dark yet a bit light romance movie. It really feels like it oozes out the times as well. you just get a 70's feel from it like you do with any film that captures its time period well.

Is it the great music, the messages, the scenery, the bleakness? I'm not quite sure, considering I didn't live during the 70's (if only) but I believe it's a combo of all of the above and then some.

Just as I've been swooned by the off-beat yet brilliant romance films Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Annie Hall, I'm positive I will love this movie for a long time to come.
