Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Shae S — 03 Oct 2013
Love transcends age, and life is worth living and being happy about. This movie is a strange mix of dark humor and hopeful messages. It's quirky, but it's what makes it stand out when the themes have been visited by romances before.
Maybe all it takes is role-switching to make drama and messages more apparent. Had this been a younger woman and a more handsome man, people would care less. But simply because she was an old lady and him a tall skinny boy, simply on that alone does the relationship feel more authentic.
It's weird, but it works.
