Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Jared H — 21 Oct 2009
This movie, as weird and strange as it was, is bound to strike a charming chord with its viewers. As disgusting as the premise sounds (a suicidal teen has a love affair with an 80 year old woman), this movie is.
..actually...kind of....cute. It's shot beautifully, has an awesome soundtrack (Cat Stevens does the music), and it's consistently funny throughout. It actually reminded me a lot of what I liked about Garden State the first time I saw it, but this came about 30 years earlier.
It's one of the pioneers of the "small, quirky, indie romantic comedy with the cool soundtrack and reflections on life." Consider me a fan.
