Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Ben T — 06 Dec 2009
This is perhaps my favorite my movie of all time, next to the Lord of the Rings. It is a cult classic for a reason. It deals with difficult issues like death, finding our place in the world, the meaning of life, and presents them in a darkly comedic way.
In this way it is a comforting answer to these questions. The performances are terrific, especially Ruth Gordon, who is always excellent. This movie will always be memorable to me because of my favorite scene in which Maude outwits a police officer by stealing his motorcycle while the officer is investigating her other stolen vehicle.
Hands down one of the best movies out there.
