Review of Harold and Maude (1971) by Ryan B — 02 Jan 2013
I could be wrong but I think a 'cult' film is one that not many have seen but those few who have are sort of in love with it. Cool. This is one and its cult status is justified. Its twisted comedy still (softly) shocks and there's enough of it to spread throughout the feature.
Harold particularly holds well but Maude is most effective on her darkest, which unfortunately is in very few scenes. The theme may be overly familiar but everything about Harold and Maude and Colin Higgins' quirky script set this apart.
