Review of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) by Rainer K — 28 Sep 2012
Yesterday, when I was stopping by at a friend's place and he was just on the brink to watch Harold and Kumar's first adventure I was joining in (although the flick was neither on my priority list nor something that really interests me).
After all, there's nothing I regret about this decision. I would have either gone home watching some other movie or reading a book (normally, my friday nights are a bit more exciting but I'm nursing a nasty cold at the moment). So, watching this little flick and getting some burgers afterwards (a quite mandatory task after watching this kind of movie - we don't have White Castle over here though, so we had to stick with McDonald's) ended a neat little evening for me.
It's also pretty short at under 90 minutes runtime so you don't risk a great portion of your life watching it and it has some funny moments indeed. Stoner comedy is not my favourite topic though and most of the jokes and slapstick are too over-the-top for my comedic taste.
I also don't really get the pleasure of watching other people getting high and doing dumb things but I knew what I was buying into anyways.
Despite the sour taste of watching a piece of genre junk, I must say John Cho and Kal Penn carry the film pretty well.
Those two guys are natural comedic talents, and of course, great examples of their ethnicities (from which much of the jokes come from).
I can't say I'm a fan but this is one of the best fast food commercials I've seen in a while.
