Review of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) by Branden M — 05 Nov 2011
I am a huge fan of this film. This is a modern comedy classic that will live on for years to come and it is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The stoner comedy has been done before...Cheech and Chong.
For awhile, it was dead...but this movie revived it and made it hip again. Not to mention, helped revitalize the career of one of my favorite actors...Neil Patrick Harris (aka NPH). Here is the film in a nutshell.
..over-worked banker Harold and his slacker roommate Kumar decide to get high one night. Their induced appetite begins to kick in and they turn on the TV to find a White Castle commercial. They immediately begin to crave nothing but this food and they decide to go on a long drive to get to the nearest location.
Along the way, chaotic events begin to unfold before them that continue to lead on a path that just gets worse and worse. You can probably guess how the movie ends, but it is their outrageous journey and devotion for White Castle that drives this film.
..not to mention the comedic chemistry between the two main characters. This is also an example of a perfect comedy duo...one is always paranoid and freaking out and the other is a laid back slacker who goes with the flow.
In my opinion, Harold and Kumar are one of the greatest comedy duos along with Abbott and Costello, Harry and Lloyd, Jay and Silent Bob...and even Beavis and Butthead. If you like rode comedies, epic journies, comedic duos or White Castle food.
..then you will MOST LIKELY enjoy this film. Oh...watch out for cameos by Ryan Reynolds, Jamie Kennedy, Anthony Anderson and a few others.
